ANSWERING INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

How you answer questions during your police interview is just as important as the information you provide. When you are responding to a question, make sure to look at each panel member. You want to give off confidence during your interview, but not arrogance.

Make sure each of your responses is a standalone answer. Avoid referring to your application or resume when you are speaking, and assume the panel knows nothing about you.

Your answers should articulate your thought process. Each response should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, so the interview panel knows exactly when you are done. Many people do not know when they are done, so they keep talking. Part of showing confidence in your answer means having a clear ending to your question.

Do your best to use the full time allotted to you. Try to time your responses between three and five minutes. Do not be in a rush to get out of the interview.
